“WRITING for WINDS” Work in Progress

The first 5 lessons Writing for Winds have been released in the ScoreClub membership.

Writing for Winds is a course aimed at writing idiomatically for winds.

The lessons will focus on the main orchestral wind instruments in a high amount of detail with the goal of providing a clear roadmap to idiomatic writing.

The end goal will be for the student to have a deep understanding of each instrument so that doublings and voicings for orchestra become logical and not relying on charts and lists.

The course is a work-in-Pprogress. Here is the current lesson list and duration for each lesson.

FOUNDATION

  • Introduction and Construction (13:19)
  • Note Contour and Articulation (34:22)
FLUTE
  • Flute Part 1: Range, Dynamics and Timbre (25:22)
  • Flute Part 2: Writing Guide (55:10)
  • Flute Part 3: Repertoire (listening list with links)

Amazing Information and Value

These are incredible videos and packed with amazing information and value. I learned so much already as to how I need to approach the winds instruments.

Thank you so much for what you’re doing for this amazing community!
